Meet Gary

Gary Monteleone is a Neuro and Trauma ICU nurse, martial artist, firearms instructor, and founder of Jersey Urban Survival Training (JUST). For nearly a decade, he has worked in high-pressure environments where preparation, critical thinking, and decisive action can mean the difference between life and death.

Through JUST, Gary teaches practical skills that help ordinary people become more capable, confident, and prepared for the unexpected.

His areas of instruction include:

  • CPR & AED

  • Stop the Bleed

  • Emergency Preparedness

  • Personal Safety

  • Firearms Safety & Training

  • Mindset and Performance Under Stress

What makes Gary’s approach different isn’t just his experience, it’s how he teaches. While the subject matter is serious, the learning environment doesn’t have to be. Known for blending real-world expertise with humor, storytelling, and a healthy dose of sarcasm, Gary creates classes that are engaging, memorable, and approachable. His students don’t just sit through a lecture they participate, laugh, ask questions, and leave with skills they’re confident using

Why is a Unicorn the JUST Mascot?

Be honest.

When do you actually expect to see a unicorn?

Probably never. And that’s exactly the point.

When someone is bleeding out, choking, trapped, shot, crushed, or moments away from dying… help is usually far away.

Sometimes minutes away.
Sometimes miles away.
Sometimes stuck in traffic behind someone who absolutely should not have a license.

And in those moments, people pray.
To God. To fate. To luck.
To anything listening.

But every once in a while, someone shows up.

Not a superhero.
Not a movie character.
Not some perfect tactical operator.

Just someone who stayed calm.
Someone who knew what to do.
Someone willing to step forward while everyone else froze.

That person is the unicorn.

JUST exists to help people, families, and communities become the calm in chaos through preparedness, training, and responsible action.

You don’t have to believe in unicorns to become one.

Be Majestic.
